Qixi Festival (The Chinese Valentine’s Day)
Legend has that a cowherd who is a mortal person and a fairy called Zhi nu with excellent skill of weaving fell in love which was against rules. Hence, they got the punishment of being parted from each other. Only at 7th of July of each year (Chinese lunar calendar), they were allowed to meet. Every year, countless magpies gathered to bridge them. Originally, the romantic day dated from Han dynasty and was generated from people’s worship of nature and desires for weaving skills. It gradually has been endowed with the fantastic love story and has evolved into the present Chinese Valentine’s Day. This traditional festival has a profound impact on the countries such as Japan, Korean peninsula and Vietnam etc..
